As art history shows, there are as many approaches to the landscape
as there are artists. I study the approaches that resonate in me,
and then I try to find my own way.
Sometimes I set out to report what I see or remember as having been
there – sometimes I interpret the natural forms into my own composition
-- sometimes I follow the actions of the paint on my paper and am surprised
to see that I have made a landscape. Always, if I have communicated,
I have met my goals.
